Fabian Chavez, a native of Los Angeles, remembers growing up in a family that loved music. His fascination with the drums began when he was two years old, followed by Latin percussion and the saxophone when he was about nine years old. By 14, he was performing with professional artists and bands around LA.
Chavez played alto sax in the Griffiths Middle School band, a choice inspired by famous saxophonist Kenny G. Throughout the rest of middle and high school, Chavez played sax and percussion in the concert band, jazz band, and marching band. He graduated from California State University, Northridge, in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Saxophone Performance with an emphasis in Jazz.
With his extensive experience in the music industry as a kid and a four-year education under his belt, Chavez has been a busy artist since entering the professional scene. His gifts and talents for not only percussion and saxophone but also guitar, bass, piano, flute and clarinet, have earned him incredible opportunities and collaborations.
Chavez has toured in most major U.S. cities as well as internationally –– he recently held a two-month residency with singer Shelea at the Palazzo Versace, Quincy Jones’ new jazz club in Dubai. He’s also toured with pop/indie band Saint Motel and worked with several Grammy Award-winning artists, including Mac Miller, Tyler the Creator, Bobby Rush, Angelique Kidjo, Jill Scott, Sergio George, Blinddog Smokin, and more.
Chavez’s first single “Tranemanya” was released in 2018 on Apple Music, Spotify, Google, and Tidal with his production team, Darknote Collective.
